Amaze In Style

My everyday makeup is constantly changing every week -- heck, every day most often than not, unless I'm being particularly lazy. On a high note, it means I get to try out many different combinations of products very quickly, but at the same time I can get very bored of a new product very quickly. Still, since this year I'm trying to cut back on how much I spend on makeup, to favour fashion instead (more to come on that in a future post, so I won't bore you with the details here), it seemed like the perfect time to rediscover old favourites in my collection instead of purchasing new items for novelty's sake.

Of course, like every other trip down memory lane, I found amazing bits, but also some terrible fiascos I'd rather not run into anytime soon, which is why today I decided to share with you some of my everyday makeup bits, the good, the bad and the ugly all in one so you won't make the same mistakes I did.

Starting with something I love with all my heart, the Revlon Colorstay Foundation for normal to dry skin in the shade Buff. This shade was perfect for my milky winter skin, but as I'm magically gaining a tan lately, I fear it won't do it for me for much longer, which is a shame considering the formula of this is simply amazing. I love the natural, velvety finish it gives to the skin, without drying my already dry skin out even further. It gives you this 'glow from within' kind of aura rather than a flat out dewy finish that can be hard to manage if you suffer from an oily t-zone like I do (it's primarily my nose, but still a pain in the ass to blot at work every thirty minutes - especially considering I don't have that many breaks as it is). I do prefer to apply this with a beauty sponge rather than a brush, only because I feel like it blends everything like a dream that way around, rather than with a brush. It also has a very particular smell of sunscreen, which I actually don't mind, but it is somewhat noticeable even after you apply the foundation, so beware.

Moving onto something I'm not so crazy about, it's this very old H&M Bronzer, from the old H&M makeup line. Besides being way too orangey for me, it was also very patchy in consistency, so an overall miss for me as a bronzer. But the most watchful of you might notice I definitely hit pan on it, so I must have found some use for it, right? It turns out it was a great warm crease colour during the fall, so that's where it all went - it worked surprisingly well as an eyeshadow rather than a bronzer. Of course, since H&M discontinued this line, you can't get your hands on it anymore, but I thought I'd share my gigantic eyeshadow pan that I still reach for even in these warmer months now - just in case you have it sitting in your collection and have no clue what to do with it!

Another massive favourite of mine is the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara. I won't press on about the details for this one, since I already reviewed it here, but all I have to say is that I've never found another mascara I loved as much as this one - the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara coming in a close second.

As for a meh kind of product, we have the Deliplus Intense Eyeliner, which was actually a hand me down from a uni friend of mine, so I have no idea how much it cost. This wasn't really a mind blowing product, but it wasn't terrible either. Just not the best performing liquid eyeliner under hot weather situations - and I speak from the heartbreaking experience of checking myself at work in one of the bathrooms only to realise my wing was smudged down to very protruding panda eyes. Not a cute look I will repeat anytime soon, obviously. Still, if the weather is cold and dry, this will last you quite a long time, so it might be useful depending on where you live and where you work at.

But the worst product of them all is, without a doubt, Sleek's Matte Me Lip Cream in the shade Birthday Suit. Now, don't get me wrong, I gave this a fair shot - more than that, I was desperate for this to work as well as I had hoped for. The colour was amazing and do was the payoff, but I just couldn't get past the consistency of this liquid lipstick. It dried down to a very powdery finish that dried out my lips to oblivion after only a few hours of wear - and don't get me started on how I couldn't eat nor drink without having it peel off in the most unflattering way, leaving me with no chance to reapply an even and appealing second coat afterwards even if I wanted to touch up. It was the kind of product you had to bring makeup wipes with you to get it off after you had a meal and hope you'd rush fast enough to the bathroom so people wouldn't see what a mess your lipstick looked like. No matter how stunning it looked on me when I first applied it, I just couldn't get past the fussy process afterwards. I'd rather pick up my trusted Sephora lip creams any day of the week, even if it's worth double the price of the Sleek ones.

To end on a high note, I bring you one of my favourite highlighters, in the most travel friendly packaging of them all - the stick. Kiko's Radiant Touch Creamy Stick Highlighter is one of the best, subtle highlighters you can find that will actually last forever on your cheekbones, though I wouldn't recommend applying it everywhere since it's quite the glowy formula. Perfect for the bridge of the nose, the cupid's bow and the cheekbones, it's incredibly easy to apply and you can never have too harsh of a hand with these either - I've pretty much lathered myself in this in the past and managed to always save the day with minimal blending with my fingertips. I urge everyone to try this out, especially with Spring just around the corner.

And there you have it! A collection of hits and misses, all very affordable, some perfect for everyday wear, some you should probably stay away from as much as possible. I hoped you enjoyed this post and if you have any everyday makeup hits and misses of your own, share them in the comments!

Amaze In Style | January Beauty Wishlist

It's been a while since I shared a beauty wishlist on Amaze In Style, so I thought now would be the perfect time to share it! It's a mix of a 2016 wishlist and a January payday wishlist, so bear with the overload of products (out of which I will probably only purchase three or four at the end of the month). My salary is by no means high enough for me to splurge in style every single month, but I do manage to buy quite a lot if I keep an eye out for bargains! As always, most of the items in here at drugstore, since that's what my budget can afford, but if you'd like to see a luxury beauty wishlist, say so and I'll work on it!

#1 - Makeup Revolution Contour Kit

This one is a no-brainer. Everyone knows pale girls need some contouring to bring back some dimension after the right shade of foundation makes us look like a blank canvas, and although I'm always eyeing the Anastasia contour kits, I know they are way out of my league at the moment. From my search at the drugstore, this seems like the nicest price/quality ratio out there.

#2 - Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

If you follow me on Twitter, then you already know I stopped by Sephora earlier this month and tried out this mascara. After a full day of shopping in an overcrowded mall, my mascara still looked on point and I completely fell in love. Now I just need to muster up the courage to spend that much on a mascara!

#3 - Essence Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner

Yet another product highly raved about on many beauty blogs. I wasn't the biggest fan of winged liner in the past, considering my small eyes looked even smaller mixed in with my poor flicked wing skills. Thankfully, I have been improving with time and the latest 90's trend is definitely catching up to me - most days I only want to leave the house with some brown nude lipstick, perfect brows and a winged liner. Now I just need to buy a decent eyeliner that won't budge: fingers crossed this one does the trick!

#4 - Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Sultry

I'll admit it, I don't actually own any chubby sticks. Gasp! I know. As much as I love the idea to bits, I can't really find affordable ones at my local drugstore, so I've been putting off buying one for the longest time. Besides, most I've seen have glossy finishes and I'm not a gloss girl myself. But after I saw these beauties online, I knew I had to buy one ASAP. I ended up deciding on Sultry because it looks like the perfect MLBB winter lippie. And even though it's a little bit pricier than my usual lip product, I think it will be worth the extra money.

#5 - Real Techniques Eye Starter Kit

I also don't own any Real Techniques brushes. Double gasp! Again, I know. I'm very uptight when it comes to my budget for brushes, even though deep down I know how important they are for a flawless makeup application. Which is why I sort of made it a New Year's resolution to invest on good brushes this year, and why not start with Real Technique ones? The eye brush department is severely lacking on my collection, so hopefully I can get my hands on this set in the nearest future.

#6 - Makeup Revolution Ultra Blush and Contour Palette in Sugar and Spice

Another section of my collection that is nearly empty is the blushers. I was never really into them to begin with, but after I got my hands on this Makeup Revolution kit, I fell in love all over again. So it was only natural I tried more of their blushes next and out of all their blush and contour palettes, Sugar and Spice is probably my favourite judging by the swatches I've seen online.

#7 - Wet N Wild Mega Last Lipsticks in Rose Bud, In The Flesh and Just Peachy

Alas, my obsession with these lipsticks continues! If you thought I already owned enough of these gems, you're clearly mistaken. I won't have enough until I have them all. This time around, I want to invest in some nude shades, perfect for a transition into Spring later on in the year.

#8 - Makeup Revolution F105 Brush

And since I couldn't buy their contour kit without also getting a proper contour brush, the F105 also made its way into my lust list. All the review I saw online were positive, so I'm looking forward to see if it will work for me as well.

#9 - Real Techniques Setting Brush

Another cult favourite I have yet to get my hands on! I've been eyeing it for ages, it looks perfect for the under eye area, whether it's for blending concealer or setting that area (and it may just be me but it also looks perfect for highlighting). This is on the top of my brush wishlist and I think it will make its way into my collection as soon as payday arrives!

#10 - Makeup Revolution Flawless Matte Eyeshadow Palette

You all know I'm in love with my Beyond Flawless Palette from MUR, but my eyeshadow collection is seriously lacking some matte shades. Since I already trust the quality of MUR eyeshadows, this palette seems like the logical next step for me instead of wasting money and time buying single shadows.

#11 - Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in Fair

Yes, I know, I already bought concealers recently. The truth of the matter is I'm not the biggest fan of my LA Girl concealer (shocking, I know). I'm sure I'm just applying it wrong and I'm hoping once I get my hands on the Real Techniques Setting Brush all my problems will be solved. But the Maybelline Fit Me concealer has been on my wishlist for so long, I've just been too lazy to actually go for it. Let's hope this year is the year!

#12 - L'Oreal True Match Foundation

It wouldn't be a beauty lust list without a foundation, am I right? It certainly wouldn't be my lush list without one at least. L'Oreal True Match (along with the Lumi version) are my most coveted foundations from the drugstore. When L'Oreal came out with the newer version I gave up on the idea of purchasing it altogether, because I wasn't sure if the shade I thought I was going to be in the old version (N2) would match in the new one - hence why I still haven't bought it or picked a shade to add to this post.  So please, if you have both foundations and you're an N2 in the old version, let me know which shade I should get!

Amaze In Style | The Shower Edit

I'm not a very fussy person when it comes to shower products. When you share a house with four other people, you usually just grab whatever is in the shower rather than go out of your way and ask someone else to buy a specific item you love (unless you're lucky enough your mom also loves it)! Although it's nothing fancy and girly like anything from Lush, I decided to share with you what I'm currently reaching for during shower time and my thoughts on said products. And don't get me wrong, I love bath bombs as much as the next person, but you try and convince your mother to spend those extra euros on a one time thing - it's just not going to happen.

Starting off with my shower gel, I'm currently using the Revlon Natural Honey Shower Gel. This particular range is usually in sale at the drugstore, so I've tried almost every scent possible and I have to admit, this particular one isn't my favourite. I prefer the argan oil one, the smell of that is just divine, but this one isn't bad either. Just not one for sensitive noses.

As for conditioner, I've been using the L'Oreal Paris Elvive Aginine Resist x3. Isn't that a mouthful? And yes, I did mention conditioner before shampoo, but that's because I actually condition my hair before shampooing. I've read about it on Pinterest and haven't stopped doing it ever since. I found it moisturises my hair a lot more this way, so give it a try if you suffer from split ends! Personally, I love L'Oreal conditioners, I feel like they're one of the best out there as far as drugstore goes. This one definitely helps my split ends, plus I notice it strengthens my hair a bit as well!

Amaze In Style | The Shower Edit

When it comes to shampoo, I actually prefer either Garnier or Schwarzkopf ones. Currently, I'm using this one from Garnier that is supposed to hydrate, add shine and indicated for normal hair. Now my hair is quite normal, getting slightly oilier depending on where my hormones are at, so this works just fine most of the time. Besides, Garnier shampoos have the most amazing scent ever, so I can't stop using them.

I also tend to cleanse my face and exfoliate while I shower, so I use the L'Oreal Skin Perfection Soothing Gel-cream Wash and the L'Oreal Skin Perfection Radiance Revealing Gentle Exfoliator. I always reach for the gel at the end of the day for double cleansing my skin from a day's worth of makeup, but I find that it works really well one days I don't really wear makeup but still need to clean my skin. As for the exfoliator, it's very nice and gentle, but I won't go too deep into it since I'll be posting a review/comparison post very soon!

Finally, if I feel like my hair needs it, I will use a mask. Lately, I've been reaching for the L'Oreal Elvive Hydra-Collagen Mask. It's supposed to be for curly hair, and while mine is only naturally wavy, I do feel like it brings some 'oomph' to my waves. Definitely something I'd reach for when I want to stay clear from straighteners and curlers!

What are your favourite products when it comes to shower time? Do you have any recommendations? Feel free to leave some down in the comments below!

Back To School Makeup Essentials | Lashes
Today's post is all about your lashes! They a key part of your makeup look for school and, personally, I feel like the focus of your eyes should be on your lashes, because they will make a difference. Personally, I don't feel like fake eyelashes are the way to go when you're in school or even uni, although I have heard it's a must for some girls out there. However, for most of us, fake lashes are too much for the everyday, so I'll show you the two things you need for great lashes that will draw more attention to your eyes!

Back To School Makeup Essentials | Lashes
First of all, you have to curl those lashes! You may not believe it but doing so will make a huge difference, even if you're blessed with great lashes, curling them will make them even better. Personally, I don't feel like pricier eyelash curlers are better than the cheaper ones, I own one from H&M (the golden one in the picture above) and it works wonders for me! It was only 3.99 euros and they also have it in pink or black, if that's more your style. However, I have two other options, both very affordable, that are a bit more sturdy when it comes to the grips.

The one on the left is the ELF Mechanical Eyelash Curler and the one on the right is the Sally Hansen La Cross Double Curl. They're both under 10 euros, I believe, so it's more of a personal choice than anything else. Do keep in mind to curl your lashes before applying mascara or anything else on your lashes, since using them after may rip out some of your lashes and you definitely don't want that.

Back To School Makeup Essentials | Lashes
Now, as for the absolute essential for your back to school makeup look, we have mascara. We all need it and love it and it's one of the few beauty products even young girls can wear. The type of mascara you buy depends on what you need it to do: do you want it to give volume or length? Also, it depends on what look you prefer: spidery lashes or no clumps? Depending on what you want, you can find the perfect mascara that will do everything you want for a not so high price too! Here's some options that will suit just about any taste (however, do keep in mind I like my mascaras to make my lashes look natural but amazing at the same time, so spidery lashes won't really be achieved with these mascaras, sorry).

Avon SuperFULL Mascara: from what I've seen from review online, I love the way the lashes look after using this mascara. It definitely gives you length and a bit of volume, while not looking like fake or spidery.

Essence Maximum Definition Volume Mascara: I can guarantee you this mascara is to die for. I have this and it's my holy grail, I can't leave the house without it. Not only does it make your lashes look genuinely black but without being too overwhelming for school, but it also gives them an amazing amount of extra length. I do not have the biggest lashes out there but they look so much bigger with this baby that even my mum (who does not understand or use makeup) noticed they looked a million times better and complemented me on them. I don't, however, feel like this gives a lot of volume, unlike what the bottle says. Plus, it's under 4 euros. Do I need to say more?

Maybelline The Rocket Volum’Express Mascara: this is my favorite mascara out of all the Maybelline mascaras. I personally don't like The Falsies or Colossal, they look too spidery for my taste. However, with this one, it's the perfect amount of length and volume for back to school.

Maybelline Full ‘N Soft Mascara: if you're not looking for anything too dramatic and you just want natural looking lashes but with a little bit of extra length and black, this is the perfect mascara for you! No clumps, no spidery lashes, just really beautiful looking lashes that nobody will believe you're even wearing mascara.

L’Oreal Voluminous in Carbon Black Mascara: if you're looking for a mascara that will give you a ridiculous boost to the length of your lashes, this one is a gem. Not only will your eyelashes look much longer, but they will also be very dark, all for a very reasonable price. Don't go too crazy on the coats though, it may get a bit spidery if you do.

Revlon PhotoReady 3D Volume Mascara: like most products in the PhotoReady line, this doesn't fail to surprise me. You don't need more than one coat of mascara to get a boost of volume and length. A little goes a long way with this one and it will definitely draw the attention to your eyes.

Maybelline Lash Discovery Mini-Brush Mascara: if you have very tiny lashes, this is your best choice. The size of the brush will help you reach all your letters easily, making sure you will get the product on all of them, unlike some of the other mascaras out there with bigger brushes. This is also great for your bottom lashes!

That's all from me for today! There will only be a few more posts on this series (lips, eyesbrows and eyeshadow) and then I will probably move onto either back to school outfit ideas. Let me know in the comments below what post you'd like to see next and any other feedback you may have!

Back To School Makeup Essentials | Bronzer, Blusher and Highlighter

Hello! Today's post is all about your cheeks, so I'll be talking about blushers, bronzers and highlighters. Now, keep in mind all of these are optional since we are talking about school and what you wear really depends on your age and what you feel comfortable wearing. So if you feel like one of these isn't really your style, just skip that step, I'm sure you'll still look great in the end!

Back To School Makeup Essentials | Bronzer, Blusher and Highlighter

Let's start with blushers. I personally love wearing them on an everyday basis, I tend to go for pinker or more peachy tones, that give me a little bit of colour but still a very natural finish. My tip for you is to start small and then add up until you're satisfied with how much colour you have on your cheeks. The worst thing you can do is try to get the perfect amount on the first try, it will most likely end up with you looking like a clown with ridiculously pink cheeks and that's not a good look on anybody. So here's some of the products I found from the drugstore that you could use for back to school.

Essence Silky Touch Blush: now these happen to be my favourite affordable blushes out there. I have quite a few shades (my favourites being number 20 aka Babydoll and number 50 aka Sweetheart, which is sadly going to be discontinued). These blushers are super affordable, they're only 2.99 euros here in Portugal and they're quite pigmented. They're powder blushers, so I usually apply them with a big fluffy brush and I don't even need a lot to get the right amount of colour, while still making it look natural. It's a great choice overall, plus they're bringing in some pretty interesting shades for the Fall!

Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush: for those of you who are more fond of cream blushers, Maybelline has this really nice option. They're cream blushers that have a powder finish, so you can apply them like cream blushers and when they're set, they won't look all shiny and glowy like regular cream blushes out there.

Revlon Cream Blush: if you're more into cream blushes, just go for the Revlon ones! They melt into the skin and give you a much more natural look than the powder ones. Plus they're perfect for those of you with drier skin, while powders would suit oilier skin types. This blush will give you that boost of colour while being lightweight and looking very natural.

Back To School Makeup Essentials | Bronzer, Blusher and Highlighter

Moving onto bronzers, this is a totally optional step, really. I like to lightly contour my face, even for everyday, just so my face doesn't look so round and it also brings some Colo to my face. However, I don't contour my nose, like I know some people do. If you feel like you need to contour your nose, go for it! However, no matter how much contouring you do, just remember to keep it light since you want it to look natural and effortless.

H&M Bronzing Powder: this is the bronzer I actually use. The downside is that it only comes in two colours, so fair skinned ladies won't be very pleased, but I am. It's matte, light and you get a huge amount of product that will last you ages (I've had it for months and I haven't made a dent on it, really). If the colours available work on you, you have a great bronzer that will look really natural but it will also define your features, all for around 3.99 euros. However, if you're not happy with the colour selection, look at the options below for more!

Maybelline Fit Me Bronzer Pressed Powder: this bronzer comes with a brush that you can use for contouring, although I usually like to use a big fluffy brush, but it's personal choice, really. The colour selection is definitely better. This bronzer isn't very pigmented, so it's perfect if you're trying to get a very subtle look, but it may take you a little while until you get the right amount of product on your face, since you have to build it up. If you're looking for a natural contouring however, this is a great choice for a school look.

The Body Shop Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder: this is definitely more pricey than the last two blushes I showed you. However, it's a really good choice if you have fair skin thanks to their lighter shades. They also have some great shades for the darker skinned girls, so it's worth the extra dollars/euros/whatever currency you use. Not to mention it's not tested on animals, so you can have a cleaner conscience when you use it.

Back To School Makeup Essentials | Bronzer, Blusher and Highlighter

Moving onto highlighters, I have to be honest, I don't use them on a daily basis (I barely use them, actually). However, if you do feel like you need or you want to highlight for the school day, I'd recommend going for a cream highlighter, since it will give you a more natural look. Also, use it wisely -- a little goes a long way -- since you do not want to look like a shining mess.

Nº7 Skin Illuminator: very affordable, don't get scared by the glitter. It may look like something a fairy princess would wear but if you use a small amount and blend it in well, you won't be able to notice. Instead, it will just give you a nice glow.

L'Oreal Magic Lumi Highlighter: although some seem to think this is a concealer, don't be mistaken, since it is not. It may look like one but it's actually a very nice highlighter. Don't put this on dark circles or imperfections, it will only highlight them and bring unwanted attention to them, which is certainly the opposite of what you want to do in that situation. If you use it right, you'll fall in love with this, although some people claim it's a bit pricey for how much product you get. It's personal choice, I believe.

Nyx Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator: this product hasn't been really used to its advantage and I feel like a lot of the negative reviews on the internet are thanks to improper use of the product. People claim it's too shimmery and it looks like makeup for an 11 year old girl, but all you need to go is use it properly. If you want to use this as a highlighter, try mixing it with a bit of your foundation to take away some of the shimmer. However, I feel like this can be used for a great cream eyeshadow, especially Gleam! So it's still a good product for a good price, you just have to be a bit inventive on how to use it for your day to day life.

And that's all I have for today! I'm sorry if some of the choices for highlighters weren't the best, I really never used it (maybe once for a wedding) so it's not my area of expertize, but I mainly went from what I heard from reviews online and then added my own common knowledge of makeup in general. Hopefully, you learned something useful in this post and I'll see you on the next post where the focus will be entirely on the eyes!

Back To School Makeup Essentials | Primer, Concealer and Powder
Hello everyone! So for today's post, as promised, I'm going to be talking about the rest of my makeup essentials for your face (minus blush, bronzer and highlighting, that will be my next post of this series). This post is all about those things that will go hand in hand with your daily foundation routine for the up and coming school year: primer, concealer and face powder. I'm going to show you some choices, all of them affordable, and hopefully you'll take something useful from this post and the tips in it. Do keep in mind that I'm not a professional, I'm just sharing what I've learned from reading beauty blogs and watching videos on Youtube, plus what I know works for me from experience -- and remember, if you're not comfortable with using one of the things I say or you feel like you don't need it in your everyday makeup routine, you can simply skip it! Makeup should be about what you need and what makes you feel great, so it's different for everybody.

Back To School Makeup Essentials | Primer, Concealer and Powder

First of all, we have primers. Now if you're in school, you probably want your foundation to last all day without needing to reapply it (let's be honest, nobody has the time to be reapplying foundation during breaks). For that and much more, we have been blessed with primers: you apply it before putting your foundation, after you moisturised your skin, and not only does it make your skin look a lot better than it usually looks, but it also serves as a base for your foundation to sit on, helping it last longer. There's tons of different primers and the drugstore, surprisingly, has a lot of affordable options! Just pick what suits your needs and prepare to be amazed.

Bourjois Happy Light Base Serum Matte/Lumiére: this primer is somewhat pricey (it's around 18 euros here in Portugal) but like the Bourjois products I showed in my last post, they do come with their perks that are worth spending a bit more on. There's 2 versions: the matte one, for those of you with oilier skin; and the lumiére version, for everyone else. They both give your skin a great glow, without making it look shiny or oily (and the matte version helps you control your oiliness throughout the day!). Plus they only have one colour that fits everybody, so you don't have to worry about shades. I'm actually considering buying the lumiére version for back to school, although the bottle seems a bit small in person.

Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser: now you all may be familiar with Maybelline's Baby Lips, my personal favourite, and you know it's a great product. Maybelline came out with this primer from the same line, promising to visibly blur your pores, giving you the impression of softer skin. Who doesn't want that? It's also very affordable, so you can totally buy it without regretting how much money you spent on it.

Revlon PhotoReady Perfecting Primer: this primer is formulated with photochromatic pigments, which diffuse light to minimise flaws and also helps brighten your skin. It's also very lightweight, while it also helps your foundation last longer. Although I never tried it, I've heard quite a few people rave about this so I'd give it a try.

Rimmel Stay Matte Primer: this primer works on all skin types, controls shine, mattifies, and it never feels dry on your skin. It's the perfect choice for the girls with oilier skin, since it truly caters to your needs and it's also quite affordable.

Back To School Makeup Essentials | Primer, Concealer and Powder

Concealer will be your best friend, no matter what age you are. Although most of the products I've shown are optional, I truly think concealer is a must for school, both because it will help you cover blemishes and it also helps cover those nasty dark circles that we all end up having, sooner or later. Personally, I spent all my high school years using concealer instead of foundation, since I didn't have the money to go and buy the foundation of my dreams, nor did I know how to find it. Concealer was my best friend and, according to my friends on those days we had PE first thing in the morning and I went to school with no makeup on, it also helped me look more awake. Especially on these first few weeks where we're still trying to adjust to waking up so early, you'll definitely need to look more awake than you actually are. Whether you need help with dark circles or blemishes, there's a concealer out there perfect for you.

Maybelline Cover Stick: this concealer is great for blemishes, more so than dark circles, but it will also help with those. There's also a green version, that will help with the redness in your face. I used to have one of those but from Essence and it was pretty good, it gives you a lot of product and it's quite easy to apply with your fingers.

Sonia Kashuk's Liquid Light Concealer: this particular concealer is great for under eyes and any dark spots in general. It's quite affordable and you can also apply it with your fingers (remember to use your ring finger, it's the one with the lightest touch and it will help you be careful when touching such a sensitive area).

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser: you've probably seen quite a lot of youtubers using this concealer and they're right to do so, because it's very affordable, especially when it's great for dark circles -- not to mention it helps with the puffiness under your eyes. It also helps to brighten up that area, making you look more awake.

TIP: Always pick a concealer that's one shade lighter than your skin tone. Use that concealer under your eyes so it makes you look more awake and ready to face a boring day of school. If you're going for a concealer just to hide blemishes, go with your usual shade of foundation, since a lighter shade will bring unwanted attention to your blemishes.

Back To School Makeup Essentials | Primer, Concealer and Powder
Powder is another optional step, but one I find needed since I do have my oily T zone to worry about. For some of you with drier skin, you may find you don't need power, so you can go and skip this step; but if you're like me and need something to keep the shininess away, then keep reading. Powders are a great way to set your foundation and concealer, some of them helping you achieve a more matte look or just to simply keep the oils from coming out after a couple of hours. There's quite a few good options from the drugstore that are worth a shot, here's some of them!

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder: the holy grail of drugstore face powders, like you probably already know from... well, everyone on the internet. This powder's reputation speaks volumes so I don't think I need to tell you anything about it, besides the fact it's amazing and that I'm currently trying to hunt it down so I can buy it in time for back to school.

L'Oreal Paris Translucide Naturally Luminous Loose Powder: this powder is really good and not pricey at all! Plus it has vitamin C, which, in case you didn't know, helps keep your skin healthy. It also gives a luminous finish. I have to say, loose powders aren't my favourite, since they can be quite messy and it's hard to take them with you to school for touch ups, but it's still a good option.

NYC Smooth Skin Pressed Face Powder: this powder is ridiculously cheap (2.99$) and I've heard it's great for girls with fair skin! It also comes with a mirror, so it's very handy to take to school with you. I personally prefer powders like this, since you can just put them on your makeup bag and use for touch ups throughout the day.

And that's all for today! I hope you guys enjoyed this and if you found it helpful in anyway, leave a comment down below, it really helps me to know if I'm helping you out. Feel free to leave feedback and suggestions for future posts and I'll see you soon on my next makeup essentials post!

Back To School Makeup Essentials | Foundation

To start off my back to school series, I've decided to tell you all about my makeup essentials! I'll divide it into different categories since it'd be a ridiculously long post otherwise, plus I'll be talking about things that work on everyone, not just for my skin type/colour. I hope you all enjoy it and, as always, feel free to leave any suggestions or requests down below!

When I first thought about my makeup essentials for school time, I knew foundation was a must have. I totally understand that for some of you it may not even be an essential, especially for everyday wear, but as a college student, I feel like a lightweight foundation gives my skin that even complexion that I so desperately need. Of course, if you're reading this and you feel like you don't want to wear foundation everyday, you can just skip it or even go for a BB cream if you prefer those! I personally don't like any of the BB creams I've tried and I can't really afford the more expensive ones (again, I'm in college, I often find myself not being able to afford anything), so I just go for a good lightweight foundation for my skin type.

Talking about skin types, I should tell you all a little bit about mine so you know what works for me -- and keep in mind it may not work for you since everyone's different and so are their skin types. However, I will give you different options for different skin types, don't worry. I currently have combination skin at age 19, however I did have very oily skin back when I was 13 or 14. Only recently I've noticed my skin has been drying out and I think it's just one of those things that come with age, since I'm also less likely to break out now than I was back then. Anyways, I have an extremely dry forehead (and that little space between my eyebrows, just above my nose... I don't know what it's called but for some reason it refuses to stay normal), while my nose and chin tend to get oily throughout the day. Because of this, it's a bit harder for me to find a foundation that works, since I have the worst of both worlds and there isn't exactly a foundation that can both moisturise my dry parts and prevent the other parts from getting oily, so I have to just find the one that works the best for one of the problems and try to fix the other with something else.

Because of my skin type, I tend to go for foundations that work best with dry skin (since moisturising my skin before applying foundation simply doesn't work for me, it ends up not lasting long on my dry patches and only makes my oilier parts even oilier) and I try to fix the shininess with a good powder.

So now that you know a little bit about my skin type, let's talk about some good, cheap options for everyday wear! I looked for mostly drugstore foundations (since back to school season is expensive as it is, so we don't need to spend 70$ on a foundation) and even the ones who are a bit more high end are still relatively cheap, at least in my country. It may be a bit different for you where you live, some of these options may not even be available, but I'm sure you can find at least one of them.

Now, I must say I never tried any of these foundations since I did not wear foundation when I was younger and had actual oily skin, but I do know all of these have great reviews from girls with oily skins.

Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 hour foundation: I never actually saw this on sell on stores here in Portugal but I've heard a lot of people talking wonders about it. Although I'm not sure it will actually last 25 hours (I don't even know why you'd need it to, I don't think anybody has foundation on for that long) but I do know it's very cheap so it's worth a shot.

Garnier BB Cream: For those of you who think foundation is too heavy for everyday, then this BB cream is perfect for you. Although I've never actually worn, I do know someone who uses it for everyday and she absolutely loves it. She has oily skin and she says this gives her a nice enough coverage, plus it has SPF in it and it's also good for your skin. And did I mention it's very affordable?

Revlon Colorstay: I don't think I have to tell you how good this is, after all there's a ton of reviews on blogs and on Youtube about this so you already know it's good. Sadly, I don't think Revlon is sold in Portugal, or at least not in supermarkets, It is, however, a great option at a great price. It is, from what I've heard, a bit more medium coverage, so if you don't want that much for an everyday look, maybe try one of the other two options.

Clinique Supermoisture Makeup: We all know Clinique is a pretty good brand and this foundation (although slightly more pricey than a drugstore foundation) is a very good choice for those of you with dry skin. I've never tried this but I've heard tons of good things about it so if you have the money to spend, I'd recommend giving this a shot.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum: In case you don't know, Bourjois is owned by the same person who owns Chanel. How fricking awesome is that?? Now I did try this out and I fell in love. I've been trying to find the perfect foundation for back to school that I could wear everyday for the whole Summer and I always go back to this one. It's just amazing, the colour matches me perfectly and it will help me hydrate my skin. It is a serum so it's lighter than a regular foundation and it's around 20 something euros here in Portugal, so I'm guessing it will be around that price for you too (I've heard it's a lot cheaper in the UK). People say it has a scent but I never noticed it while I tried it on, so maybe my sense of smell isn't that great? Anyways, I highly recommend this and I'm definitely going to buy it soon and probably even give you all a review on it!

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation: I've heard this is also amazing and around the same price as the serum version. From what I've heard, this is more matte than the serum and also provides a bit more coverage. It's a pretty good option in case you don't want the serum, however do keep in mind it also has a slight scent to it, so if you're not into that you should try another one.

FOUNDATIONS FOR NORMAL AND COMBINATION SKIN

I don't exactly have any foundations I recommend for these two types because it's very subjective of what you need. BB creams will always be a good choice for normal skin types since they are good for your skin and they also provide a little bit of coverage.

In case you have combination skin like myself, I'd suggest you think about what you really need a foundation to do. Do you need it to help your dry spots or the oily ones? If you need it to help the oily spots, go with a foundation for oily skin and, as for your dry patches, invest in a good moisturiser before applying your foundation (maybe even a primer that will also help moisturise those tough spots). If you need your foundation to cover up your dry patches like I do, go with a foundation for dry skin, which will give you the hydration you need and invest on a good powder to apply only on those oily spots (it's okay if you need to touch them up every now and then throughout the day, if your skin's oily that will probably be a must have anyways, just make sure to bring the powder with you to school).

At the end of the day, you should go with what makes you feel comfortable and ready to face everyone each time you walk into that classroom. If you don't even need foundation or BB creams or anything like this, then skip it! Concealer on the right spots goes a long way so I totally understand if you want to skip this step. What matters is that you feel confident throughout the day!

And that's the end of this post! I hope you liked it and, in the next post, I'll be talking about the rest of the base face products of my essentials (aka concealer and powder). Feedback is always welcomed and appreciated so make sure to leave yours down there and, as always, I love you and I hope you have a great day!
